Dental Conferences

The GDC recommends 5 core areas in which dentists and DCPs should carry out CPD.The Core CPD Update conferences will bring the whole dental team up to date on the latest developments in these key areas and ensure you are well on the way to satisfying the GDC’s requirements for verifiable CPD.

Each year’s conference is suitable for those who have attended in previous years as well as those who have not and by attending these conferences every year it will ensure compliance with the number of hours recommended by the GDC in these core areas.

In addition to the Core CPD Conferences we offer a range of more speciallised half day courses on areas such as periodontics, whitening, aesthetics, endodontics.

Enhanced CPD

As of 2018, the GDC will be restructuring its CPD model to ECPD (Enhanced CPD). The new model aims to encourage professionals to take a cyclical approach to their CPD, involving planning, undertaking and reflection, using a personal development plan (PDP) . The five year cycle will remain the same but there are some key changes that will affect you. They are as follows:

  • The emphasis on reflective practice, and the use of the PDP to identify learning needs and direct learning;
  • Removal of non-verifiable CPD;
  • The reduction in the number of hours of CPD – 100 hours for dentists, 75 hours for most DCP groups, 50 hours for dental nurses and technicians;
  • Inclusion of provisions requiring CPD to be more evenly spread throughout the cycle

The GDC has set four learning outcomes that your CPD must be mapped against for each activity. They are:

A. Effective communication with patients, the dental team, and others across dentistry, including when obtaining consent, dealing with complaints, and raising concerns when patients are at risk;

B. Effective management of self, and effective management of others or effective work with others in the dental team, in the interests of patients at all times; providing constructive leadership where appropriate;

C. Maintenance and development of knowledge and skill within your field of practice; and

D. Maintenance of skills, behaviours and attitudes which maintain patient confidence in you and the dental profession and put patients’ interests first

The GDC has retained the recommended core topics and full details of this can be found on the GDC’s website:
